Stories From The Road 2003

Sorry it has taken me so long to update the 'stories' section for 2003. We really have been focusing on the studio side and learning new material. But now that we have played a few shows, I thought I'd get back to telling you all about them!

May, 2003

The first show of the year was our record release party at The Bottom Line in New York City (click here for some photos) What a great night! I want to thank all of you who came out and supported us. That meant so much to us. The club gave us the entire night. We played for 3 hours. We had some special guests, like Louis Cortelezzi on sax, who joined us on the song 'Damned' to recreate the magic he had added to the tune on the new album. We also had a string quartet and a three piece horn section. This was the most musicians I had ever had on stage at one time. It was a little crowded but it sounded so good. Everyone played great and really enjoyed themselves. We had all put a lot of work into making this night come together and it really showed. I was very proud at the way the night went. We also proved to the venue that we can draw enough people on our own to handle an 'evening with ' headlining slot without a support act. That was all thanks to the fans that came out!

June, 2003

After being rained out last year, the Cobble Hill Association asked us to try to perform an outdoor concert at The Cobble Hill Park in Brooklyn, NY as part of their summer concert series. This was something I really wanted to do. The small park had been the park I grew up playing in. How cool was it to come back many years later and play music in it! This time the weather held up (just barely since it rained for the five days before and then five days after!) We had a nice turn out and it was a beautiful summer night to play. We did a more 'unplugged' show and still had a bunch of people dancing. I hope we get to do that again next summer.

July, 2003

I just got back from a week in Nashville, TN. Every since I first went down there to record with Frampton I have fallen in love with that city. I feel my talents and style of songwriting are truly respected down there. It's such a musically creative atmosphere that it just rubs off on you when your there. I went down a few days before the rest of the band to do some songwriting with Ronnie Rogers w(who has written hits songs for Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, Mark Chestnutt, etc..). It was an honor that Ronnie wanted to co-write with me after hearing some of my material. I was very flattered. We spent two days writing and came up with a great song called 'Daddy Fixed It'. The band joined me down there to play two shows at a cool little venue called The Basement (click here for some photos). The first was an industry showcase. We had a great turn out and got to show our stuff in from of some very important music people. (Unlike New York they actually came out to see us). The show was short and sweet. In Nashville if you want to play for the industry you do it right after work, 6:00pm, and play 30 mins tops. Basically you blink and it's over. Even though our main purpose was to play the showcase we decided since the whole band was down there we should play a public performance show as well. So later that night we played another show. This was a fun gig. After the pressure of the showcase was out of the way we took advantage of the relief and played a great set. I feel that we will be going back to Nashville in about a month to follow up on some of the reactions we got from our show. The band and I would like to that Richard Falklen at Lighthearted Productions for all of his hard work, generosity and devotion to the project. He put together a great night, with the help of Ronna Rubin, The Basement and it's staff, and our great sound man Slade Cochrane. We had fun and hope to be back soon.

August, 2003

Well the blackout of 2003 almost canceled our show but the club got power the day before and we were on. Once again, playing the Bottom Line was a blast. We had a nice turn out even though there were no subways, it was a Saturday night in the summer in New York and people were still recovering from the blackout. The club was kind enough to base another night on the Eric Stuart Band. We even had the chance to pick our support act. My good friend Jim Malone and Standpipe opened our show for us. Jim played some solo acoustic shows with us while our our tour in the past. I though he and his band would be a good complement to our music and I was right. Everyone seemed to have a good time and our band was smokin'. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us once again.

More to come...
